Degree Programs Available at the University of Cincinnati

The Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management is available on campus, online or in a hybrid version. The program is 52 credit hours and can be completed in as little as two years. Students gain an understanding of acquiring, analyzing and protecting digital and traditional medical information. The program combines business, technology, and science. It is designed for working professionals with RHIT credentials who wish to pass the Registered Health Information Administrator examination. Students who completed the program have a pass rate of 90 percent on the examination compared to a national pass rate of 71 percent. Courses required may include:

Students gain an understanding of how conceptual and theoretical frameworks apply to real-world situations using hands-on experiences. The Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the University of Cincinnati prepares nurses to use evidence-based practices in the delivery of patient care. The program is available online, on-campus or in a hybrid version. Students are prepared for leadership roles within health systems or academic settings. They develop skills in organizational and system leadership, the development and implementation of health policy as well as planning and management of health promotion programs. Students may concentrate their studies in:

All students, including online students, must attend a one- or two-day orientation in the first fall semester. Students may also attend a summer workshop on-campus that assists them in their required research project. Students must attend campus during their final semester to defend their DNP project and participate in the commencement ceremony.

About the University of Cincinnati

Cincinnati College and the Medical College of Ohio opened in 1819 while the University of Cincinnati opened in 1870. After the opening of the University, the city merged Cincinnati College and the Medical College with the University to create one school. The school became a municipally-sponsored state-affiliated institution in 1968.

University of Cincinnati Application Requirements

In order to apply for the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management, applicants must have graduated from or be currently working toward a Health Information Technology Associate degree with a minimum GPA of 2.6 and have current AHIMA membership. They must provide official high school transcripts as well as official transcripts from any college or university attended.

Applicants to the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and have an overall GPA of 3.0. Students with at least a 2.75 GPA may be admitted if they have five or more years' experience, nine hours of graduate work with a 3.0 GPA, a minimum combined score of 300 on the GRE and at least one academic letter of recommendation. All applicants must provide at least one letter of recommendation.

In order to apply for the Doctor of Nursing Practice, applicants must hold at least a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Nurses who hold a Master of Science in Nursing may apply for the shorter Post-MSN DNP program. Due to state board requirements, applicants from the following states may not apply for the online program:

• Washington

All applicants must have a valid, unrestricted RN license. One year of nursing experience is required. Applicants must have a GPA in BSN studies of 3.25 and a science GPA of 3.0 or higher. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities must be provide along with official GRE scores. A current resume, goal statement, and references must be provided. All applicants must submit to an interview either on campus or by phone.

The University of Cincinnati Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition for the Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management is $416 per credit hour.

Students may apply for financial aid at the University of Cincinnati. Aid is available through grants, scholarships, and loans. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for financial aid at the university.

Tuition for the Master of Science in Criminal Justice is $640 per credit hour. FOP members are eligible for a tuition discount and must contact an enrollment advisor to learn more.

Tuition for the Doctor of Nursing Practice is $640 per credit hour for both on-campus and online courses.

Financial aid is available and students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) regardless of income. Undergraduate students may be eligible for grants, scholarships, and loans. On campus, students may also be offered work-study programs. Graduate students are eligible for loans while on-campus students may be offered fellowships or assistantships.
